-Excalibur presented the show as “The Night of Champions”. “For the first time in the game today, all four world titles,” he said.
MJF was the first to enter the ring with a belt around his waist. Takeshita entered second. Taz says MJF is “the bonnet ornament of this company.” MJF showed a close drop right after the DDT. MJF bit Takeshita on the arm and patted him on the back. Takeshita returns to the corner with an explosive suplex. MJF avoids the sneakers, then rolls him up for a double count. Takeshita stayed on offense for a while, including throwing MJF at the post. Fans chanted, “You deserve it!” Takeshita threw him back into the ring. MJF knocked Takeshita off balance on the top rope. He pointed to his head to show that he was smart. He then tried a top rope suplex on his back, but Takeshita put him on the clothesline. MJF landed on his leg and shook it off. This is a great place. As torturous as MJF was, he was a good guy, Excalibur said. He then hit Takeshita with his elbow. Takeshita responded with a lasso. Both fell down and slowly got up. The fans stood and applauded and then chanted “AEW! Takeshita rolled him up to make him fall. He then completed a running jump before playing for the fans. Fans chanted “This is amazing!” Excalibur promoted the upcoming championship.
MJF rolls to the side to avoid Takeshita’s running knee. Excalibur asked Taz if he wanted the scammer to represent AEW as the champion. Taz said it wasn’t his opinion because he was just a color commentator. MJF blew up Takeshita on his knees. MJF clutches his knee in pain. A few seconds later, Takeshita shot down a blue thunder bomb. Takeshita lands on his knees. MJF puts his foot on the bottom rope to stop the referee’s count. MJF used his signature hand to win by tapout.
-After the game, he pushed the referee and hit Takeshita with a dynamite diamond ring. As he straddled Takeshita to hit him harder, Bryan Danielson’s music played and he ran out to save the ball. The medical staff examined Takeshita, whose forehead was bleeding from being hit with the ring. There was a blood stain on the rug. He may have handed his blade to the referee as he knelt down to inspect it.
(Keller’s analysis: Really good figure. MJF’s overall look, combined with a cropped physique and new hair, boosts his overall performance as an AEW World Champion.)
- Last week, Samoa Joe showed a vignette in which he boasted that he had taken the TNT title from Darby Allin. He said that Darby was a worthy opponent, but Wardlow was not. He speaks of Wardlow as an ambitious competitor who needs to be silenced. He said that Wadlow had a lot of secrets and he would reveal them and take everything from him.
(2) JAMIE HAYTER (with Britt Baker, Rebel) vs. BUNY (with Penelope Ford) – Elimination Challenge (whatever that means)
They are locked up for a strength test. Hayter brought Bunny into a side head hold. Bunny’s legs suffocate as he hangs from the top rope. Hayter threw Bunny back into the ring. Bunny broke Hater’s neck when he jumped to the floor. Bunny beat Hayter in the ring by knocking her shin off the ringside steps. They switch to split screen as Bunny throws up his hands and gloats for his own gain. [fps]
After the break, they returned to the ring. Hayter sent out two suplex blasters, but Bunny awkwardly took the second, as if she expected something else. Hayter then delivered her Heyterada for a quick victory. Rabbit grabs her by the face. Taz said that when you try to block explosives, it worsens the movement effect, which he believes happened.
(Keller’s analysis: Interestingly, they got to the finish line earlier than planned due to an uncomfortable landing on the second suplex surveyed. The race had been running fine until then.)
-Rene Paquette interviews Toni Storm and Saraya backstage. Saraya interrupts Renee when she mentions that Hayter won. Saraya invites Leva Bates to join them. Then a storm knocked her down and trampled her down. Saraya painted a green “L” on her white shirt, which means “loser”. Salaya said they weren’t here to make friends.
(Keller analysis: Saraya is a better heel than Babyface. The “girl” plot quickly becomes unbearable.)
- approached the announcer in front of the camera, and the announcer praised the upcoming championship and challenge. [WITH]
- Lexi Nair is standing outside the MJF locker room. She said she wanted to talk to him. He called her into the locker room, called her “honey” and sat her next to him. He said that everyone was talking about Takeshita like he was the next big thing, but he couldn’t match the talent of a generation like him. He said that Danielson and the fans treated him like some kind of bastard. He said he wasn’t sure if they hated him because he was resourceful or if they were perverting him because they hated him. He said he drove really fast in his blue camera in high school. He said he had received a speeding ticket and was on the verge of disqualification.
He talked about prom and the girl he thought was perfect. He said he took her for a walk and she gave him oral sex (he ran his tongue across his cheek). He said he wanted to hit the brakes, but he hit the gas. He said he hit a pole. He said his hands were covered in blood and his girlfriend’s head had smashed the windshield. He said the sirens started to sound. He said that at that moment he realized what kind of person he was. He said he grabbed her lifeless body and switched places with her to make the officers think she was driving. “There are winners and losers in the history books,” he shouts, “and the history books don’t care how you do your job. He said the world would know Danielson didn’t have what it takes to get the job done. He said that he would not win the championship, because before that he would fall behind. He said he was a scumbag and proud of it.
Garcia came out as if he were an opponent. Music by Sammy Guevara. Everyone got on their aprons. Guevara began to enter the ring to distract Starks, after which Garcia attacked Starks from behind, revealing that he was the official opponent. They switch to split screen within a minute. [fps]
Returning from a break, the Starks dropped a Borealis bomb nearby. Fans chanted “Ricky!” Excalibur said that in terms of how the rest of the JAS saw him, it had a lot to do with Garcia, not just the Starks. They fought on the platforms. Jericho, who was masked and disguised as a fan in the front row, hit Starks in the head with a spinning elbow. The announcer asked if it was a fan. Garcia pushed Starks into the ring and converted a three-pointer. Taz said it was like a Judas effect. Jericho enters the ring and exposes. Garcia was shocked and stood up and hugged Jericho and Guevara.
(Keller’s analysis: They weren’t many, but they got through quickly, and JAS should get the publicity about how they stopped the Starks.)
- Rene interviews The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn. Billy said he would stay and let them run things their way. Max Custer is pleased with this. Anthony Bowens seemed less confident but managed to initiate a “scissors, my dad” handshake. [WITH]
— Rene interviews Danielson about his final hurdle before winning the 60-minute Iron Man match against MJF. Danielson was with Takeshita, who was recovering from the game. The locker room door ended up being locked from the outside when Rush entered his roundabout. Taz says it’s a problem.
-Rush enters his entrance to the ring. MJF left, stating that Danielson plans to play the game “right here, right now, in dirty El Paso.” He said he wasn’t there. Schiavone said, “Yes, he is here.” MJF told the referee to ring the bell as required by the regulations. They switch to a split screen where Danielson enters the door. Preston Vance tried to stop him, but Takeshita intervened. Danielson then ran into the ring. Referee Aubrey Edwards was slower than MJF wanted. Danielson made it to the ring just in time.
Taz said that Danielson may have bumped his shoulder even harder while checking his way through that door. MJF joins the announcer commenting and complaining about the referee’s slow counting. Rush beat Danielson ringside minutes into the game. Danielson was bleeding. Rush began to lick the blood from his fingers. Rush headbutted Danielson on the side of the road before throwing him into a roadside barricade. MJF called Schiavone “a fat old bastard”. Schiavone said MJF should be wary of Danielson. Danielson’s forehead was covered in blood. Rush threw Danielson off the apron and onto the floor. They switch to split screen. [fps]
Returning from the break, Danielson knocked Rush down and went to LeBell’s castle. Rush reaches the bottom rope to break it. Danielson jumped over the ropes and landed on top of Rush, who was sitting in a chair leaning against the barricade, from a running start. The camera lens was covered in blood. Returning to the ring, Danielson jumped off the rope in a canopy. He was in no hurry because his face was covered in blood. Fans chanted, “Great!”
Everyone stood up and exchanged stamps. The crowd cheered with the singing of “Ci” (Spanish for “yes”). Danielson landed two punches in a row, but Rush took him down on the third try. He set up a straight copter for a close fall. Danielson nearly fell on his return, but suffered a knee injury. They engage in a crazy head-to-head battle and throw a slap. Rush turned down Danielson and MJF was happy with that. Danielson returned with Psycho Knee to win the game. “Welcome to the revolution,” said Schiavone. MJF stood up and clutched his head in disappointment.
-MJF enters the ring, Excalibur advertises MJF vs. Danielson as the next official PPV match. MJF waited for Danielson to get up and then hit him with a dynamite diamond ring. [WITH]
- Schiavone interviews two people on the TBS show Impractical Clowns. They stole Jericho’s baseball bat and told him to come get the bat or something.
(5) THE ELITE (Kenny Omega & Young Bucks with Brandon Cutler, Michael Nakazawa) vs. TOP FLIGHT (Dante & Darius Martin) & AR FOX – Trio Championship
Darius almost falls on Nick, but Matt (sort of) shatters the screen and the referee stops his count even though Darius is still covering Matt and Matt’s shoulder is still down. Fox jumps into the circus crowd. Top Flight provided Nick with their Nose Dive. Fox then tagged Nick and landed on him with a 450 cutscene. Nick was kicked out when Omega swooped down to rescue him. Fans chanted, “Awesome!” Omega gave Fox a snapdragon. Dante cut off his momentum with a quick leap from the clothesline. Bucks and Omega ended up in a trio against Fox, but Darius and Dante broke the screen. Omega wanted the V-Trigger, but Fox dodged and nearly fell. Omega drops the heartbreaking Doctor Bomb. He followed with a V-Trigger and a One-Winged Angel attempt, but Fox flipped him over and nearly fell. Omega scored with a cross turn three seconds later.
(Keller’s analysis: Rampant sportsmanship and excitement from start to finish. Not a lot of solid sales, but it’s the epitome of elite style and fans love it.)
- Lexi interviews Stokely Hathaway about Cracks in the Company. He insisted that The Firm was good, but there were problems with The Hook. Hooker approached Stokely from behind. Stockley kisses Hooker. Hook grabbed his arm and pinned him to the ground. Hook told him, “Sir, be careful with those words.” Lexi asked him if he was all right. “Get medical help. Get medical help!” Stokely said.
- Excalibur Rampage: Mark Briscoe will talk, Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Utah vs Butcher, Blade and Sabian, Jack Perry in action, Ruby Soho vs Marina Shafir. [WITH]
(6) THE ACCLAIMED (Max Custer & Anthony Bowens) vs. COLTEN & AUSTIN GUNN – AEW Tag Team Championship Match
Caster criticized the Gunns for failing to finish them off like a border wall and shooting them down like a Chinese weather balloon. Excalibur said that Billy did the hard thing by taking himself out of the game so the two teams could settle the conflict. Schiavone said Billy remained consistent with Acclaimed but still had feelings for his son. Taz said that Billy was in a quandary. They switch to an early split screen break. [fps]
Gunns controlled the game at half-time. The referee was knocked down on the touchline. Austin got Bowens in trouble. He grabbed the tag belt from the edge of the ring. Billy Gunn apparently ran out to save the ball. The fans are cheering. Austin swung the belt at Bowens, but Billy pushed Bowens away and then grabbed him. Colten then blinded Billy with another tag belt. The fans booed. Bowens came to his senses and stood up. Caster joined him. They go after the Gunns. Caster has landed. Custer entered the field to revive the referee. He threw the referee into the ring.
Kolten throws Custer at the circus barricade. The judges began to think that Bowens would cover for Austin, but Colten pulled Bowens off the cover. Kolten then hit Bowens with a tag belt as Austin gave him the win. They move to the fans watching in shock and dismay. The fan started, “What the fuck?” Billy leaned over to Bowens, and his sons buckled their seat belts again. The Gunns music stopped and the fans started chanting “Bullshit! According to Excalibur, The Acclaimed and The Gunns story is not over yet. Then, when for some reason the music of The Acclaimed began to play, he inserted Rampage.
(Keller’s analysis: The game was good, but it didn’t start until the final chaos. I think that set the stage for The Acclaimed’s victory at Revolution and two titles.)
