Animal home decor is an adorable trend no one is buying

Some aspects of traditional adult life are often associated with pets. I haven’t gotten to that stage yet – mainly because one of my roommates is allergic to cats (my favorite animal) and because my boyfriend seems to think animals “should be able to kill you” to have value.
Those of us who don’t (or never will) have pets can take solace in a strange and delightful new home decor trend: animal decor. And no, I’m not just talking about leopard print pillows – I’m talking about a fully lit leopard print figurine table lamp.
I’m not sure who first decided that home interior design should resemble a zoo, safari park, or other wildlife-centric environment. But someone did, and the decision was delayed. Various retailers (namely Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie) are now selling snake-like mirrors, lion-like vases, and dog-like candlesticks in their home improvement departments.
I think this story is a hard buy. But the truth is, the home decor scene is completely filled with animal-inspired stuff, and I found about a hundred worthwhile items that had to be trimmed in the editing process.
Maybe you’re blown away by this fun little fashion, or maybe you find it gaudy in a not-so-cute way. Either way, you can’t just blame animals for being cute, too much of them makes everything bad. Spend a few minutes and you might find this surprisingly chic – a whimsical addition to any home or apartment in need of a little refresh.
Below you’ll find 37 animal decorations that fit the bill – you might find one (or two) worth adding to your home.
Imagine that they surround your dining table. (There are also rabbit, woodpecker, and deer versions.)
For those who are very fond of cats (or Himalayan salt lamps), they want a cat shaped Himalayan salt lamp.
