Bike Test: Vali Höll’s Hike with the RockShox Fork Prototype

Vali Höll will take part in Saturday’s UCI World Championship women’s downhill race, which features top riders – and it’s a specially painted Trek Session that will feature an Austrian.
Hall arrived in Les Gets, France on fire after winning the World Championships in Canada last week at Mont Sainte Anne. Can the 20-year-old 2019 World Junior Champion make it to the top of the elite podium?
Höll got a smart Trek Session from the world of Les Gets with a bunch of new or unreleased SRAM/RockShox parts.
This includes the BlackBox Boxxer fork, which we assume features the new Charger 3 damper and DebonAir+ air spring introduced earlier this year on the 2023 RockShox Pike, Lyrik and ZEB forks. From what we’ve seen here, we think Höll is also using a beefier 38mm top tube like the one found on the RockShox Zeb single crown fork.
The RockShox Super Deluxe Coil Ultimate shock is also new, while the BlackBox kit covers brake calipers with a yet-to-be-released SRAM code (we assume).
As for the highest-pivoting Trek Session bike, it differs from the production model with an updated tensioner and chainstay location for Höll.
Rob Weaver is the Chief Technical Editor of BikeRadar. Rob manages all testing for BikeRadar as well as our Mountain Biking UK and Cycling Plus magazines. Rob first appeared on the pages of MBUK as a freelance writer in 2001 and in 2007 began testing bikes for championship titles. In 2010, he joined the team full-time and kept a close eye on all tests – and has remained relevant ever since. Rob’s vast knowledge of cycling comes from his passion for racing. He first tried his hand at cross-country mountain bike racing in the early 90s before venturing into downhill racing. After many years of racing on the British National Circuit (including a year of trying to compete in the UCI DH World Cup), Rob realized that his experience and passion for bike tuning, technique and writing clearly surpassed his racing ability. With a degree in sport technology and years of driving experience, Rob has a clear understanding of what it takes to build a great bike or product. Although Rob is a mountain biker at heart and enjoys riding the Welsh hills most of all, he is also more than happy to ride a few miles on his road or gravel bike.
George Scott is the editor-in-chief of BikeRadar. He has been writing about bicycles for over a decade and riding them for even longer. He’s a road cyclist at heart and likes hills best, even if he can’t climb them particularly fast. George has ridden Etape du Tour, Maratona dles Dolomites and Haute Route sportives, but he also had trouble riding gravel. George also contributes to the BikeRadar podcast and YouTube channel, and as a former editor of RoadCyclingUK.com he has also written about cycling for Rouleur, Cyclist.co.uk and T3.
